The Idea behind the group -How we started..................
Whilst doing a little knitting at a local playcentre along with a friend we attracted alot of interest and comments from other parents, some mentioned they would love to be able to knit, others remarked they used to knit as a child but wouldn't know where to start now.........this sparked the idea behind the group and after a little while the Facebook page was created followed swiftly by this website, which initially I shared just among my friends then to a wider audience.
It was decided that a monthly meeting should take place not only so we could get together and knit and crochet but also make new friends and share patterns, hints and tips (along with some funny stories and lots of laughter) So once a venue was found and a date set there was no turning back so I attended the first meeting not really sure if people would turn up or not.
Our first meeting attracted 9 ladies, some of which had never knit before, others who had knit more recently but all of whom thought we were onto something. The morning flew by and I think it was remarked that maybe we should just be called 'knatter' as not much knitting or crochet had taken place, but we all had a lovely time and wanted to make the get together a weekly date rather than monthly so we could progress with our projects at a much faster rate.
We have since grown and our largest meeting to date attracted 20 keen ladies, busy spreading the word, but Im proud to say I have achieved my aim for the group, we now have a weekly coffee morning group of friends who remark that they look forward to coming during the week. We enjoy not only spending time with each other talking all things knitting, crochet and craft, but also making new friends. We have a lovely venue at The Bank Corner which has recently been fully refurbished, we have a nice area reserved for our meetings with good lighting and plenty of space to spread out with our chosen crafts. we welcome members who have children to come along and provide some toys and items to keep the children entertained. The children play happily while the adults get to learn a new skill, make new friends and enjoy a drink and some tasty food.
I am very proud of what the group has become and the memebrs have achieved so far, we welcome anyone to group regardless of age, gender or level of skills or chosen craft and are a lovely group who dont take ourselves too seriously and enjoy meeting for a coffee, cake and chatter as much as anything else
